Hi-tech Hi-life
I've pondered on this for, now, years. And while I can't really zero in on the right answers, I figured it might be a good excercise to pose it as a series of questions for myself and the reader. So, here we go:
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
What is creativity?
Is it something that needs to be earned?
Is the creative aspect confined to the imagination? Is the act of transforming and interpreting imagination into the physical plane an acquired skill or creativity?
Can machines be creative? Even if they are, does it have any value?
Will human creativity always be more valued than any machine creativity? Does this depend on the domain (arts: yes, sciences: no)?
Was move 37 creative?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
Are the artists from centuries ago who had to source canvas and pigment more creative than ones who use digital means today? What about symphony composers of yore versus samplers today?
Even if machines can create great art, should we value and consume it?
If the monetary consideration was eliminated, where would the morality of this issue be?
Is a model's training akin to organic life learning by imitating its environment?
Should we discard all human art in favor of machine art, despite no meaning being communicated?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
Should one be required to earn a living to exist?
Is superintelligence the answer to all the world's problems?
Would one be required to earn a living if superintelligence existed?
Are all damages to the human experience, in the path to superintelligence, a worthy sacrifice?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
Is superintelligence even possible?
If it is, would it be hoarded by its creators?
What if superintelligence can solve some things but not others?
How would our experience change if we end up in a post-scarcity, solved world?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
Where will we find meaning in a solved world? Especially for those who define themselves by the work they do, would they suffer from a deep identity crisis?
Will we see a world where individuals pursue an action only if they derive pleasure in the process of doing it and not its outcome, the resulting acclaim, or from coercion?
Would we create hierarchies based on something superficial and meaningless and spend our lives maximizing for it?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
Can one even prepare for an incoming singularity?
Would land be the only thing with any residual value?
How will the world survive 15% unemployment? 30%? 50%?
